NoRoomForDeath

it’s hard for me to go through the month of february without thinking about death. my grandfather died sixteen years ago at the beginning of february. and last year my grandmother died at the end of february. so, needless to say, death has been a frequent topic of thought for several weeks.

a song that continued to come to my mind is an old hymn by Henri Malan, called It is Not Death to Die. Bob Kauflin has created a beautiful modern version of it that i love. he added a chorus and changed a little bit in the harmonies. here are the lyrics.

It is not death to die
To leave this weary road
And join the saints who dwell on high
Who’ve found their home with God
It is not death to close
The eyes long dimmed by tears
And wake in joy before Your throne
Delivered from our fears

O Jesus, conquering the grave
Your precious blood has power to save
Those who trust in You
Will in Your mercy find
That it is not death to die

It is not death to fling
Aside this earthly dust
And rise with strong and noble wing
To live among the just
It is not death to hear
The key unlock the door
That sets us free from mortal year
To praise you evermore.

O Jesus, conquering the grave
Your precious blood has power to save
Those who trust in You
Will in Your mercy find
That it is not death to die
